Stripping eh? Sounds like behaviour fit for those who spend most of their free time dwelling in areas of ill repute right? Well, a friend and I decided that we would like to treat - or somewhat embarrass - a friend of ours for her 21st birthday celebration. We choreographed a routine on Fatboy Slim’s Rockafeller Skank, practiced a little and when the big day came we asked the MC to announce that we have something to say. Indeed. Now if you are familiar with a typical South African style 21st party you’ll know it usually includes not only friends but members of the extended family as well (at least for the first part of the festivities). I suppose the fact that she is part of the rather conservative Afrikaans culture didn’t exactly make the environment more hospitable for what we were planning to do. Anyway, the MC called us up, I took the microphone and asked her to join us, we gave her a seat in the middle of the dance floor and the music commenced. I am quite sure that at first everyone was convinced that we were just giving her an innocent (and perhaps silly) little dance to celebrate her 21st year on this greenish rock, but then things became tactfully provocative and we were unbuttoning our shirts as we took turns to dance rather close to her. The scene was set and her face started to show many colours of pink and red. Fortunately the crowd, at least its younger members, were quite appreciative of what turned out to be rather interesting. Yes we pushed her to the limits of embarrassment, although I think she enjoyed the show, and took it all off except for our boxers (I hope you didn’t think I went Full Monty?) We recieved quite a cheer when it was all done as everyone seemed to have enjoyed our antics. I must confess that I too rather enjoyed doing it, but I am sure my experience would have been somewhat different if I went all the way…
