Rediscovery

Songs I have discovered this week:
Shpongle - Divine Moments of Truth
Bad Loop - Leliel (download),
Nine Inch Nails - The Frail (Benelli remix)
and, oddly, I rediscovered one of my own- “Void Rhythm”
Void Rhythm

Man, I remember heartfelt being one of my favourites. Found it on a cd awhile back again. I was looking for the rest of the tracks still cant find them…

    Still into making music Shodan?

Afflict, I am quite surprised (yet pleasantly) to hear you say that. After investing in some proper high-fidelity headphones (R700!), I picked up that Heartfelt was a mess in terms of equalization. The lead synth distorts and the bass drum is too deep. I lost its orchestration files in a hard drive crash and regret that I can’t fix it now. But thanks for the feedback, I will create a download section some time and put it up there anyway as a momento.

I am still dabbling around with it a lot, but can never seem to finish a song. The other day out of boredom I recorded myself beat boxing (and very badly) and other sily sounds using windows sound recorder and played with it in synth software just to see what I can do with it to amuse my friend. I slowed it down, did some processing and added percussion instruments. Despite its goofy beginnings, it turned out into quite an eerie tune. Turning it into a song however, is my problem with all these little experiments. Like most things I do, I start things but hardly finish them.

I seem to suffer from the same problem, starting something new is always exciting and fun and then it just seems to dafe away when the rest of lifes responsibilities stacks the odds against you.

It always seems to happen, I would like to blame Murphy on this but yeah its really my own fault.

Afflict, as someone with a scattered mind, I have started countless things. Almost anything that captures my attention for the slightest moment would mount a small investigation until something else captures the same attention. I have started reading thousands of books, papers and articles but only finished a fraction of that amount. I used to be convinced that this behaviour prevents me from wasting my time and possibly miss something I really want to do- a breadth of knowledge as opposed to depth. But in truth I feel like I am wasting more time by starting so many things with general understanding and not finishing them in order to gain full understanding. Of course, one shouldn’t torture oneself with things you really don’t want to do just for the act of finishing what you started, but lately I am more satisfied with disciplining myself and having a finished product that isn’t everything I want than having a great segment of something that will never become complete. Creatively speaking, I have found that quality, while very important, comes after you have actually produced something, in between it is only in the way of creativity.
