An introduction

I don’t know how many authors write an introduction to their personal journals or just start scribbling. I, on the other hand, sometimes enjoy introductions and feel that it would be appropriate to write one for my online journal, weblog or simply blog.

I, like many others, am at times quite insane, opinionated, confrontational, argumentative, irrational, arrogant and impulsive respectively (or not). Qualities I believe should all make for an interesting read. Of course there are my good qualities too, but talking about them can have quite the opposite effect (like boredom) to that of the author’s intention.

With any luck, you might witness the unravelling of a deluded mind or be completely oblivious to it (as I am), but my aim with this is to contribute… something. Even though I don’t intend for this blog to become bloated with IT centric entries, it is inevitable since I work in the industry. However, it is my hope that the other topics will take precedence and contribute on a deeper level.

The word “shodan” (初段) owes its heritage to the Japanese language and it is used to indicate that one is of a beginning or first rank (“dan”). I find this appropriate since it fits well with the quote “wisest is he who knows he does not know” and combined in understanding can have a humbling meaning.

I am not satisfied at all with this place’s current construct so things may or may not change radically around here. Let’s see how I fare with this, shall we?

Kanji have different semantic value in Japanese than they have in Chinese, but phonetically they are the same. There are literally thousands of kanji characters, but as an example the kanji for the term “shodan” would be 初段. […]
